Intercessions for 19 March 2006

By Mr Alan Bayliss

Let us pray :-

Lord, you create all things in your wisdom, love and power;
Give us eyes to see the wonder of your works;
Wills that are strong for your service,
And hearts that love you, who first loved us.
Lord, forgive our misuse of things you have made;
Forgive our failure to discern your purpose and to share in it.
Make us thankful for all your good gifts and faithful in the use of them;
And deepen our trust in your love and care.

Lord in your Mercy; Hear our prayer.

A prayer for those confirmees who were confirmed and became Church members last Sunday. We pray for them and their families and Fynn and Sam and their families as we welcome them into our Church family :-

O Christ, bless those your servants who opened their lives and hearts to you.
By the power of your cross, protect them from evil.
In the passion of your love, save them from half-heartedness.
In the depth of your mercy, pick them up when they fall.
Be close to them when they face difficulty and distress,
And dance in their lives with your light and delight.

Lord in your Mercy; Hear our prayer.

We pray especially at this time for Church unity and remember and pray for our ministers here at Putnoe Heights and St. Mark’s; Charlie, Neil, Joan and Sam :-

Lord, heal your Church; heal the wounds of the past, and those we inflict on each other now. Free us from party-spirit, and forgive us when we fail to listen to each other.
Lift up our hearts to you, so that we may be filled with resurrection joy beyond all division, and with your spirit of love, which nothing can destroy.

Lord in your Mercy; Hear our prayer.

We remember now those with disabilities, and those who care for them. :-

Father, we lift up to you all those who are disabled - in hearing, in sight, in limb or in mind. Save them from bitterness and frustration and give them joy in the midst of their limitations. May they find peace and fulfilment in knowing you and discovering your will for their lives.
We pray for special grace for those who care for them. Give them your love and kindness and understanding of the real needs of those they look after.

Lord in your Mercy; Hear our prayer.

We pray for those who are ill :-

Lord God, whose son, Jesus Christ, understood people’s fear and pain before they spoke of them, we pray for those who are ill; surround the frightened with your tenderness; give strength to those in pain; hold the weak in your arms of love, and give hope and patience to those who are recovering. We ask this through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Lord in your Mercy; Hear our prayer.

A prayer for those who have died :-

Father of all, we pray to you for those we love, but see no longer. Grant them your peace; let light perpetual shine upon them; and in your loving wisdom and almighty power, work in them the good purpose of your perfect will.

Jesus Christ is the light of the world, a light which no darkness can quench. We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope.

We remember ……….

You turn our darkness into light and in your light shall we see light.

Merciful Father,
Accept these prayers for the sake of your son, our Saviour Jesus Christ
Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer.
