Intercessions for 30 April 2006

By Mr Alan Bayliss

Let us pray :-

We begin our intercessions with a prayer of praise and thanksgiving :-

You are holy, Lord, the only God,
And your deeds are wonderful.
You are love, you are wisdom.
You are humility, you are endurance.
You are rest, you are peace.
You are joy and gladness.
You are all our riches, and you suffice for us.
You are beauty, you are gentleness.
You are our protector,
You are our guardian and defender.
You are courage,
You are our haven and hope.
You are our faith, our great consolation.
You are our eternal life, great and wonderful Lord.
God almighty, merciful Saviour.
St. Francis of Assisi (1182-1126) (abridged)

Lord in your Mercy; Hear our prayer.

We hear so much about people’s rights, and the must have now society in which we live, let us ask God for gentleness and forbearance as we grow in Him :-

Bestow on your people, O Lord, a genial spirit and unwearied forbearance; a mild, loving, patient heart; kindly looks; pleasant, cordial speech and manner…that they may give offence to none, but as much as in them lies, live in charity with all.

Lord in your Mercy; Hear our prayer.

A prayer for the lonely :-

O Lord our God, you have said “I will never leave you nor forsake you”. Grant that all who pass their days in loneliness, may be strong and of good courage, knowing that you are with them; and make us ready to visit and cheer them in their need.

Lord in your Mercy; Hear our prayer.

We pray for Church unity worldwide; and also remember and pray for our ministers here at Putnoe Heights and St. Mark’s; Charlie, Neil, Joan and Sam :-

We pray, O Lord, for the Church which is one in the greatness of your love, but divided by the littleness of our own. May we be less occupied with the things that divide us, and more with those we hold in common, and the love that enfolds us all..

Lord in your Mercy; Hear our prayer.

We pray for those who are ill in body and in mind :-

We cannot measure how you heal
Or answer every sufferer’s prayer,
Yet we believe your grace responds
Where faith and doubt unite to care.
Your hands, though bloodied on the cross
Survive to hold and heal and warn,
To carry all though death to life
And cradle children yet unborn.
John L. Bell and Graham Maule (verse 1 from a song)

Lord in your Mercy; Hear our prayer.

A prayer for those who mourn and those who have died :-

Almighty God, whose Son our Lord Jesus Christ won the victory over death; grant that all who mourn the loss of those dear to them may enter into his victory, and find comfort, hope and peace in him, who is the resurrection and the life.

Jesus Christ is the light of the world, a light which no darkness can quench. We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope.

We remember ……….

You turn our darkness into light and in your light shall we see light.

Merciful Father,
Accept these prayers for the sake of your son, our Saviour Jesus Christ
Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer.
