Church Prayers and Intercessions

Pentecost Prayers

By Mrs Sue Allen

As the first disciples did on the first Pentecost, let us now unite in prayer and open our hearts to receive the Holy Spirit. Lord send your Holy Spirit into our hearts, into our lives and into our world. We thank you, loving Lord, for all the things that bring joy to our hearts. For your many blessings on us, for peace, for the love of friends and family, for our enjoyment of our environment.  We give thanks for health and strength,  for the many comforts we enjoy.
Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer

We give thanks for the love of Jesus Christ who guides and guards us. We ask your blessing on all who minister in this church and St Marks. For Charlie, Sam and Jane and all our leaders and volunteers. May each of us respond to the gifts that the Spirit bestows to enable us to serve the Lord more fully day to day. May the Church, in the power of the Holy Spirit, bring the teachings of Christ to people of every language and culture.
Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer

We give thanks for our beautiful world. Lord make us more aware of our responsibilities to our environment, our climate and our resources that we may ensure that the beauty of the earth  continues for future generations. We pray for peace in the world, that the Holy Spirit may unite and reconcile the peoples and nations to bring an end to war, hatred and discrimination. We remember the people of Iraq and Syria, and all those risking everything to set out on the sea to flee their homeland in search of a better place.
Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer

We give thanks for friends and family, for fellowship, for shared laughter. We thank you for the comforts of home, for food and shelter .  Holy Spirit, Lord and Giver of Life, renew the face of the earth and make it a place where the poor are fed and  the strangers are welcomed.
Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer .

We give thanks for our health, for each new day and the opportunities each day brings. Lord, be with the sick and sorrowing at this time. May they feel the loving arms of God surrounding and upholding them.
Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer

We remember those who have died and share with their families and friends in their time of loss.
Jesus Christ is the light of the world, a light which no darkness can quench. We  light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ, which eternally shines and brings hope. We remember

You turn our darkness into light: in your light shall we see light.
