Church Prayers and Intercessions

Church Prayers and Intercessions for Ordinary 25

Mr Ian Farthing

The bidding for our prayers is Lord in your Mercy and the response is hear our prayer

Lord God as we come before you today we give you thanks for providing us with so much to enjoy in your world.
Open our eyes to see all the beauty around us to appreciate your greatness in giving us different seasons each fulfilling our needs.
As summer turns to Autumn today may the earlier setting of the sun remind us to take time to rest.

May the brilliant and changing colours of the leaves remind us of the wonder of your creation.

May the steam of our breath in the cool air remind us that it is you who give us the breath of life.

May the harvest from the fields remind us of the abundance we have been given and the bounty we are to share with others.

Lord in your mercy

Lord God we pray for our church here at St Marks for our ministers and we give thanks for all those who were able to spend time   in fellowship, reflection and friendship at last week’s Harvest Mission weekend
Help us as a congregation to continue to be outward looking, so that what we find within our fellowship we may share with those outside, for the benefit of all and for your greater glory.
Grant that all who come in to contact with this church may be enabled to renew their relationship with you, and may find your peace, your strength, your grace and above all your presence.

Lord in your mercy

Lord God when the world seems so often in turmoil and despair, hear us as we pray for those who bear the heavy burden of leadership among the nations of the world.

Give them in all their deliberations wisdom to know your true will, regard for your laws and respect for human rights that they may seek to lead all people in the paths of truth freedom and peace for the glory of your name.

We pray particularly at this time for peace in all countries of the world where crime, violence, war and terrorism are daily occurrences,

Lord purify the minds, hearts and attitudes of those involved in violence and terrorism, that they all may know Christ's peace, and may we put our trust in the power of good to overcome evil and the power of love to overcome hatred.

Lord in your mercy

Lord God the source of life and health, we pray for all who are ill, in body and in mind, for those at home, for patients in hospitals, people awaiting surgery and those undergoing difficult treatments.
Give medical and support staff the skill to make them well again and grant that during their illness, they may learn more of the depth of your love and your care for them.

Lord, we pray for those whom we have loved but see no more and we pray that all those departed from us may rest in peace and may those who mourn them know your strong and still presence. Jesus Christ is the light of the world a light which no darkness can quench we remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope.

Today we remember ?

You turn our darkness into light in your light shall we see light

Lord in your mercy

Loving God, who chose to send your Son into our world, be with us today and the week ahead as we make our daily choices.
Help us keep our eyes fixed on you, that in your eyes we may be wise, that we may grow in wisdom and reflect the glory of your incarnation, Jesus Christ who is with us always in the power of your Spirit.

Merciful Father accept these prayers for the sake of your son our Saviour Jesus Christ – Amen

We will now say together the Lord's Prayer....

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.  And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever.  Amen.
