Church Prayers and Intercessions

Church Prayers and Intercessions for Ordinary 22

Let us pray for the church and the world and thank God for his goodness.
Gracious God, we pray for peace, justice and reconciliation throughout the world. We pray for the honouring of human rights, and for the relief of the oppressed. We pray for world leaders as they seek to negotiate good relations between nations and an end to the use of destructive weapons of war.

We pray for the renewal of the Church in faith, love and service. We pray for church leaders that they would faithfully proclaim your word and seek justice and truth. We pray for the life of our church community. We give thanks for the gift of your word, the grace of the sacraments and the fellowship of your people. We pray that our living witness of faith would draw to you others who might know the joy of your forgiveness and love.

We pray for our local community and for all people in their daily life and work. We pray for all schools as children return for a new term and teachers as they prepare to teach them and lead them in understanding and truth.

We remember the challenges faced in our society by the young and the increasingly elderly, for families, and all those who are alone and feel isolated. We pray for those who are in need; for the sick, sorrowful and bereaved. We pray for all who bring comfort, care and healing. We give thanks for human love and friendship and for all that enriches our daily lives.

We pray for those who mourn and ask that we might share in their mourning and comprehend a measure of their loss. As Jesus wept at the grave of his friend Lazarus and raised him to life may we share in his refusal to allow death to be the final enemy and share the good news of resurrection and life everlasting through the gift of Jesus Christ

We remember those who have died and those who mourn their loss. Jesus Christ is the Light of the World, a light which no darkness can quench. We light a candle to symbolise the Light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope.

May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace and rise in glory

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your son Jesus Christ our Lord Amen.
