INTERCESSIONS

10th August 2003

Let us pray for all people everywhere according to their needs.

We think first, this week, of all those who are on holiday. Resting and relaxing, whether away from home, or at home. Bring them your peace and your strength to carry on whatever work or study awaits them on their return.

Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer

We think of those in what we call “The Third World” – Africa, the Middle East, the Far East.

We who have so much material wealth, we pray that the affluent West will share and will help those countries in need. We think of, and pray for, those whose lives, homes, and loved ones are put at risk by war, terrorism, and famine. We particularly bring before you the people of Liberia and Zaire who need peace and stability so badly. Give wisdom to their leaders and love for their people.

We pray for those who hate, that they may learn to love. Grant, Lord that all people may live without fear and hatred as they walk in your ways.

Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer

Strengthen your church, Lord, to be united in love and prayer. Help us to be one while respecting each others’ differences, celebrating our variety while facing a common purpose and each pursuing gladly our own mission as we journey through life.

We pray for our local leaders, Charlie, Sam, and Joan. We also pray for the wider Church throughout the world. Once again Christians are in the news headlines for all the wrong reasons. Lord, you came to us to bring us together, not drive us apart. We pray that different viewpoints will not cause enmity & distrust to drive a wedge into our worldwide unity.

Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer

We pray for all who suffer in mind or body and for those who care for them. We pray for the sick; for those who mourn; for those without faith, hope or love.

We pray for any known to us who are in special need of our prayers at this time. We remember them now in a moment of silence ….

Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer

Candle
Jesus Christ is the light of the world, a light which no darkness can quench. We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ, which eternally shines and brings hope. We remember Catherine W--

You turn our darkness into light;
in your light shall we see light
.

We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ, which eternally shines and brings hope.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

Gathering our prayers and praises into one, let us pray with confidence as our Saviour has taught us.

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
On earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours
Now and for ever. Amen.
