INTERCESSIONS

25th May 2003

Let us pray.

God our redeemer, who in your word commands us to pray without ceasing, we would name in your presence this morning, people and situations that need our prayers.

We pray for the church throughout the world and in this country. We pray for our Bishops and chairman, for this church and also for Putnoe Heights. We pray for our Leaders and all who serve in this church in positions of authority, and all those who offer their services in various ways in the service of Christ.

We remember this morning the work of John Wesley.

Keep us always mindful of the greatness and richness of the fellowship to which we belong that we may share with those outside for the benefit of all and for your greater glory.

Holy Spirit, we pray today for peace in our world and an end to violence.

Purify the minds and attitudes of men and women in leadership, especially in the media, so that they present a better, more peaceful view of our world, rather than the violent image that agitates those troubled in spirit.

May the world know Christ's peace, without which society loses its direction and ignores our deep desire for peace..

Father, peace is the great gift of your Son to our world. Help us to be peacemakers so that we build bridges that bring people together and not walls that divide and segregate. In environments of violence and distrust may we, by our loving understanding always be part of the solution, never part of the problem.

Father, we thank you for our families and friends. Without them we would feel lonely and unwanted.

Bless all families today, so that they may live together in love, peace and harmony. We pray today for all those who feel lonely that they too may experience the gift of a loving family of friends. May their lives be enriched by friendship that dispels their loneliness and makes them aware of their value to others and to themselves.

Be with all families in these days when family values are under attack and when many children no longer their parent's Christian calling.

Show you love to those who have never really known you and make them realise that you are their Father from whom all friendships flow.

Lord, we  pray for all who are desolate and in pain or sorrow this day. We pray especially for anyone known to us who are in trouble, need, sickness or adversity. We pray in a moment of quietness, as we name them in our hearts.

In your mercy, heal their sickness, dispel their fears, and make them know that you are ever near them, and may they enjoy the comfort that your presence means to them.

Heavenly Father, we thank you for those who have died in the faith of Christ. We thank you for allowing us to share our lives with them.

We pray for those who mourn. Open their minds that they may find a new direction in life and grant them the comfort of your presence.

CandleJesus Christ is the Light of the World, a light which no darkness can quench.

We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope.

We remember: Gladys H--, Edna L--, Ben R--.

You turn our darkness into light;
in your light shall we see light
.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
