INTERCESSIONS

2nd March 2003

Let us pray for the world and for all the people who live their lives in all sorts of conditions.

We pray for countries in the world who are involved, or who may be involved in conflict and war. As the world seems to be about to involve Iraq in war, we pray for peace. It seems at times, Lord, all our prayers are in vain and that You do not seem to hear. But we know in our hearts this is not so. You do hear our prayers and pleas, and like a loving parent, you give us what we need - whatever that may be.

We once again ask that all people, from the lowest to world leaders are guided by the one law which Christ gave us - to Love You with all our hearts - and our neighbour as ourselves.

We pray for our leaders, especially the new Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams. May he lead not only the Church of England, but all people into a new period of discovery of Christianity, of love, tolerance, and joy in the discovery of what God gave to the world in His son, Jesus Christ.

We welcome into our fellowship Corey, David, and Ella Rose and also their families. May they grow in the knowledge and love of God.

We pray for those who are sick in body, mind or soul and for those who care for them.

We remember in our prayers those who are in need of healing, of comfort, of our support. We call to mind those who are in special need of our prayers at this time, and we remember them now in a moment of silence ….

Lord in your mercy

We remember and pray for those we know who have died and are parted from us.

Though the pain of parting can last a lifetime, we also give you thanks for their lives which touched ours, bringing us love, happiness and an awareness of Christ.

Jesus Christ is the light of the world, a light which no darkness can quench. We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ, which eternally shines and brings hope. We remember Maia A--

You turn our darkness into light,
in your light shall we see light.

Merciful Father:
accept these prayers for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Gathering our prayers and praises into one, let us pray with confidence as our Saviour has taught us.

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, Your kingdom come, your will be done, On earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours Now and for ever. Amen.
