1st September 2002

Lord God we thank you for the guidance which you have given to us to help us better live our lives. Help us to know your rules and take them to our hearts. May we know that your will for our lives is that we should be able to life in all of its fullness.

At this difficult time in international relations, we ask Lord Jesus for those who seek ways of peace to be encouraged and given wisdom. Disturb the ways O Lord of those who cause violence and bring about death and destruction, may they be thwarted in their wickedness and turned towards peace.

We remember the world leaders attending the summit in Johannesburg. We pray for our planet and its precious resources. Help us who live in the richest part of the world to be aware of suffering in other places. May we seek ways of justice and peace that will protect our planet and its creatures and provide a decent standard of living for all of your children.

We pray for the sick and suffering and those who care for them. We ask for your blessing upon the caring agencies, emergency services and charities.

We remember the recently bereaved and all of those who mourn the loss of loved ones. Jesus Christ is the light of the world, a light which no darkness can quench. We light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope. We remember especially this Sunday……

You turn our darkness into light,
in your light shall we see light.

May the souls of all the faithful departed in Christ, rest in peace and rise in glory.
