INTERCESSIONS

Trinity Sunday: 26th May 2002

Let us pray for all people and nations throughout the world…

Lord God, you know our wants and needs, even before we express them; but even so we bring our hopes, fears, wants, and needs before you today in prayer.

We pray for the nations of the world, especially those in conflict, anger, dispute, and enmity towards one another.

We bring before you especially the countries in the Middle East, Israel and Palestine, and those on the brink of the horrors of war - India and Pakistan.

Your Son, our Saviour taught always to forgive, and not to seek revenge on one another. May the prayers of all today bring about this in the hearts of leaders of those countries.

Lord, in your mercy - Hear our prayer.

We pray for the local community, for those who lead us in politics, religion, teaching, or any other capacity. Give them strength for their tasks, patience, and understanding; and guide them in their work.

We also pray for those who are taking exams at this time of year.

Lord, in your mercy - Hear our prayer.

We pray for those who suffer in body, mind, or spirit. We ask for healing for them, and pray for those who love them, care for them, and look after them.

We especially pray for those who died in the China Airlines crash, and for their loved ones.

We name those known to us who need healing of any kind, and pray for them personally in a moment of silence.

Lord, in your mercy - Hear our prayer.

Jesus Christ is the Light of the World, a light which no darkness can quench
We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope.

You turn our darkness into light,
in your light shall we see light.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

We will now say the Lord's Prayer together. You can find the words we use on the last page of your service sheet.

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
On earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours
Now and for ever.
Amen
