Mothering Sunday

Let us pray for the world and for all the people who live their lives in all sorts of conditions.

We pray for Israel and Palestine, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq and all places where there is war and conflict, that their people may learn to live in peace and harmony. We pray for restoration of the democratic process in Zimbabwe. We pray for world leaders as well as for our own government, that they may lead with wisdom and integrity.

Lord, in your mercy - Hear our prayer.

We pray for our homes and families, and especially today because it is Mothering Sunday we pray for our own mothers, whether they are with us every day, whether they live far away, or whether we see them no more. Flowers

We pray for those mothers for whom motherhood is a particular challenge, for those mothers who will never see their children grow up or lead independent lives, and for those children who crave the mother love they have lost.

We thank God for a mother's love as we remember the love between Christ and his own mother.

Lord, in your mercy - Hear our prayer.

We pray for those who are sick in body, mind or soul and for those who care for them. We remember especially  . . . and any others we know who are in special need of our prayers at this time. We remember them now in a moment of silence ….

Lord, in your mercy - Hear our prayer.

Jesus Christ is the Light of the World, a light which no darkness can quench. We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope.

You turn our darkness into light,
in your light shall we see light.

Lord, in your mercy - Hear our prayer.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

Gathering our prayers and praises into one, let us pray with confidence as our Saviour taught us.

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, Your kingdom come, your will be done, On earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours Now and for ever. Amen.
