INTERCESSIONS

Harvest 2001 (7th October)

God of love we thank you for your gifts in creation; for our world and the heavens, which tell of your glory; for our land, its beauty and its resources. We give praise that once again your promise has been fulfilled and that seed-time and harvest have not ceased.

We give thanks for the fruits of the earth in their seasons, and for all those who work on land and sea, in the city, and in industry to bring us our daily food.

We pray for ourselves and for all who make decisions about the resources of the earth. In our throw-away society may we show greater care for your gifts.

God, you have provided for all mankind. Help us to share your bountiful harvest so that it may be used for every family, in every land, and not be wasted by those who already have enough for their needs.

Lord, have mercy upon us,
Christ, have mercy upon us,
Lord, have mercy upon us.

God our heavenly Father, as the world stands on the brink of a period which is filled with uncertainty and anguish, guide the nations of the world into the way of justice and truth.

Grant us a vision of your world as your love would make it:

A world where the weak are protected and none go hungry or poor.

A world where the benefits of civilised life are shared, and everyone can enjoy them.

A world where different races and cultures live in tolerance and mutual respect.

A world where peace is built with justice, and justice is guided by love.

Lord, we ask for your inspiration and courage to enable us to build this world in your name.

Lord, have mercy upon us,
Christ, have mercy upon us,
Lord, have mercy upon us.

God our Father, we give you thanks for the gift of life, and for all who enrich our experience.

God of love, we pray for those who are sick, sad, or lonely; and for those who find it hard to see the joys of life. May they be aware of your comforting presence; know the warmth or your friendship; and live securely in the light of your love.

Jesus Christ is the light of the world, a light which no darkness can quench.
We remember before God those who have died, and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope.

You turn our darkness into light, in your light shall we see light.

Lord, have mercy upon us,
Christ, have mercy upon us,
Lord, have mercy upon us.

Merciful Father:
accept these prayers for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
