Church Prayers and Intercessions

Prayers Sunday 19 January Eiphany 2 Year A 2014

After the words ‘Your kingdom come’, we say ‘Your will be done’.

Let us pray.
In faith let us pray to God our Father,
in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ,
and in the power of the Holy Spirit.

God of love, we pray for the life of your Church throughout the world, with all its diversity of tradition and culture: may all who profess the name of Christ help to make communities of love and service wherever they are. Renew us in this Partnership that we may also love and serve.
Your kingdom come: Your will be done.

God of mercy, we pray for the life of your world.  In the midst of ongoing strife and violence, where conflicting visions lead so easily into violence, and where the use of guns and bombs are seen as leading to solutions:
may your Spirit find a new home in the hearts of all who claim to know your way,
so that the suffering of ordinary people be reduced, and glimmers of hope be encouraged to blossom.
Your kingdom come: Your will be done.

God of compassion, we pray for those who suffer – in body mind or spirit;
we pray for those who are walking through the valley of the shadow of death, or alongside such people;
we pray for those struggling with loneliness or depression, those for whom the winter months drag on;
we pray for refugees and all who have been forced to leave their homes and countries because of civil strife and war; we pray for those who are seeking to bring relief and to sow seeds of hope;
may the warmth of your love give strength and patience, healing and grace.
Your kingdom come: Your will be done.

God of glory, we rejoice in the communion of saints, and claim our place among those who seek the fellowship of your people, which is everlasting.
We thank you for all who have gone before us who have shown us glimpses of your love.
Your kingdom come: Your will be done.

Jesus Christ is the light of the World, a light which no darkness can quench. We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope. We remember today AAA
You turn our darkness into light and in your light shall we see light.
Merciful Father :
accept these prayer for the sake of your Son our Saviour, Jesus Christ, Amen.
