Church Prayers and Intercessions

Prayers Sunday 19 January Eiphany 2 Year A 2014

Mr Ian Farthing

Lord God our Heavenly Father we come before you today in the greatness of your love and lift up our hearts in prayer and praise.

Help us to pray simply and sincerely, unselfishly and gratefully, remembering the needs of others as well as our own, and giving thanks always for everything in your name.

We pray for the Church, of which we are members, and thank you for the light it provides for our journeys ahead. and we remember all who spend their lives leading others to you, supporting and encouraging them on their journey , give them your ideas, your love for others, your joy and your humility.
We remember all those who have helped and inspired us on our Christian journey for the experiences that have led us to know you and to love you.
Help us to be able to look at ourselves, and to recognise our failings, our inadequacies, and the need for your presence in our journey of life  and as we receive the sacraments today may we experience a real  sense of belonging to you and to each other.
Bind us together, Lord, as a family, so that we can travel along life's journey helping and supporting one another, overcoming together all the trials and temptations which confront us in our daily lives
Lord in your mercy

We pray for our leaders and advisers in politics, business, education and health for good values for integrity and compassion for courage to stand up for what is right.

We pray for peace in all countries of the world where violence. war and terrorism are taking place and we pray especially for those who seek to make peace in this divided world.

Lord in your mercy

We pray for our relationships with others, our neighbours, colleagues and our families for the grace to forgive  readily, listen attentively and to be available whenever they are in need.

We pray for the frail and the wounded the harassed and the despairing, for hope in suffering, comfort in distress and healing of body, mind and spirit.
Lord in your mercy
Lord God you know the secrets of every heart.
Strengthen and sustain those who mourn that they may experience the comfort of the Holy Spirit within them and the love and fellowship of the church family around them and may the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace and rise in glory.

Jesus Christ is the Light of the World, a light which no darkness can quench. We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ, which eternally shines and brings hope.
You turn our darkness into light in your light shall we see light.
Lord in your mercy
Lord God lastly we pray for ourselves, as we go out of your house today and as we start the week ahead, we pray that in all we do, we may we walk more closely with you, aware that you are always at our side and that you fatherly love and care knows no bounds.
