Prayers of Intercession 8 May 2005

The bidding for our prayers is “ Lord in your mercy” and the response “Hear our prayer”

Let us pray as we quieten our hearts before God and pray for the Church and the world

Heavenly Father we thank you for your love which freely forgives and welcomes us into the family of your church, for your love which abounds in the joy of creation so evident all around us during this month of May.
For your love which brings peace into our lives working through pain hate and conflict, for your love which challenges us and purifies our hearts

We thank you that after the ascension of your son the disciples were assured by the angels of his return, help us to behave in a way that shows we believe the angelic message, by saying No to all that is wrong and by living self controlled upright lives as we wait for that blessed hope, the appearance of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ

Lord in your mercy

Father we pray for your church throughout the world that it may share to the full in the work of your son revealing you to all men and women and reconciling them to you and to one another.

We Thank you for the blessings of our country and for the freedom we enjoy, in this election week we pray for those whom have been elected to govern, give them all health and strength, wisdom and courage so that they may carry out their duties in the best interest of all people. Let all who have power remember they are your servants and that your son came to serve rather than be served.

We pray for those who are sad, unhappy or lonely, the poor the hungry and the homeless.

Christ let me see you in others
Christ let others see you in me
Christ let me see

You are the caller, you are the poor
You are the stranger at the door.

You are the wanderer, the unfed
You are the homeless with no bed.

You are the man driven insane
You are the child crying in pain.

You are the other who comes to me
Open my eyes that I may see.

Father we place into your gentle hands all those who are sick in body mind or spirit, and in a moment of quiet name in our hearts those known to us who are in need .
Ease their pain and heal their suffering, be present with them and fill them with the warmth of your love that they may receive courage and strength in their time of need

Lord in your mercy

We pray for all those who mourn and as we remember Christ’s ascension to God and the promises of Ascension and Pentecost may those assurances bring new feelings of strength and purpose to us all.

Jesus Christ is the light of the world a light which no darkness can quench. We remember now before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope

We remember

William Sharpe

You turn our darkness into light in your light shall we see light.

Lord in your mercy

And so finally God our Father, make us joyful in the ascension of your son Jesus Christ, may we follow him into the new creation for his ascension is our glory and our hope. .

Merciful father accept these prayers for the sake of you son our saviour Jesus Christ
