Prayers of Intercession 1 May 2005

Let us pray for the Church and for the world, and let us thank God for his goodness.

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, you promised through your Son Jesus Christ to hear us when we pray in faith.

We pray for people of righteousness everywhere, that they, inspired by your love, may make your ways known throughout the earth. We pray too for the wicked, that they may turn from their evil ways, enlightened by the love of him who died for us all and rose again that all may have eternal life. We pray for the Church, that those who call themselves Christians may be united in your truth, live together in your love, and reveal your glory to the world.
Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray for our country as we enter the final few days of the election campaign; move people to vote wisely. Inspire those who are elected, and all governments throughout the world, to govern with wisdom and justice, and for the good of all people.
Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray that all mankind might realise that your wondrous creation, the earth, has been lent to us for to hold in trust for future generations and that it is our duty to conserve its resources and maintain its delicate balance. We pray that you take away the greed of men who would seek only personal profit without regard to the long-term consequences of their wastefulness.
Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray for those who suffer in all manner of ways and for those who care for them and try to relieve their sufferings. We pray for any known to us who are in special need of our prayers at this time, especially those known personally to us. We remember them now in a moment of silence ….
Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

Jesus Christ is the light of the world, a light which no darkness can quench. We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ, which eternally shines and brings hope. We remember

You turn our darkness into light: in your light shall we see light.
Merciful Father,
accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
Gathering our prayers and praises into one, let us say the Lord’s Prayer together.
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
On earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours
Now and for ever. Amen.
