Church Prayers for January 2012

Prayers of Intercession for January 2012

By Mr Ian Farthing

The bidding for our prayers is “Lord in your mercy” and the response is hear our prayer – Let us pray

Lord God our heavenly Father the giver of all good gifts, we come before you today to offer our praise and to give thanks for your blessings to us.
Forgive us that so often we are more ready to turn to you in times of trouble and need rather than to thank you in the good times we enjoy.
As we go about our daily lives teach us to be thankful for every precious minute of time.

Help us not to take for granted your gift of life itself, our health and strength, the love and support of family and friends, the beauty of your creation.
Lord you have given give so much to us all, help us to give you something in return, the love of our hearts, a willingness to serve you and to share your love with others.

We pray for your blessing to rest upon this Church and Putnoe Heights. We are grateful for its worship and fellowship; for its nurture and love.
Help us to have vision to see the kind of church you need in the world today and may we never lose sight of the many and varied needs of our own neighbourhood and where we can make each make a contribution and a difference .
Lord in you mercy

Lord God we pray today for families, make your loving presence felt amongst them all especially those for whom family life is difficult and testing.
Be with those who have no family to care for them. Comfort those whose children cause them worry or heartache. Strengthen those whose children are in danger.

We remember today all young people as they return to schools and universities and we pray that all their efforts will be justly rewarded and that they will achieve what is necessary to move forward and realize their full potential.

Lord we pray today especially for the newly baptised into your family.
Hold them in your arms and bless them, Shine your light on the path before them and let them, always feel your loving presence as they travel along the paths of life.

We pray that parents and Godparents will guide with their own example of your love and always be ready to listen and to comfort, to laugh and to play, to encourage and to praise, so that they may grow in discipline and grace until they comes to the fullness of faith.
Lord in your mercy

We pray for those who are less fortunate than ourselves; those who live in developing countries and countries where there is little stability and we pray for the people of Syria as they struggle to find freedom from oppression.

Teach us to be ever mindful of those in the world who are weary with the relentless struggle to keep alive; for those who can never look forward to a good meal and a comfortable bed, and those who barely have the necessities of life which we often take for granted.

Lord God all merciful, we pray for all who face difficulties in their personal lives – those who are sick, the bereaved, those with problems in their families, in their friendships, in their neighbourhoods or in their workplace.

Help us all to be calm in times of uncertainty, patient with those around us and steadfast in the knowledge that you share each and every moment and emotion with us.

Lord in your mercy

Lord we pray for all those whom we have loved and see no longer, grant them your peace and , let light perpetual shine upon them,
Jesus Christ is the light of the world, a light which no darkness can quench.

We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ, which eternally shines and brings hope.

We remember

You turn our darkness into light in your light shall we see light.
Lord in your mercy
Merciful Father
Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ, Amen

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
Gathering our prayers and praises into one, let us say the Lord’s Prayer together.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil,
for thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory,
For ever and ever. Amen
